PDF to MOBI (browser-side EPUB)

Outputs .epub, not .mobi. True MOBI encoding requires Amazon's KindleGen or Calibre's KFX/MOBI plug-in — neither is feasible in a browser. Drop the EPUB this tool produces into Calibre (free, desktop) and click Convert → MOBI.

Important: this tool outputs .epub, not .mobi.
Why: MOBI / AZW3 are Amazon's proprietary formats. The official encoders (KindleGen, kindlegen, KFX Output) are closed-source command-line binaries that run on a desktop. There is no browser-side library that produces a valid MOBI file.
What you get: a basic EPUB file containing the extracted text of your PDF, organised page-by-page.
Next step: open the EPUB in Calibre (free, Windows/Mac/Linux). Right-click → Convert books → Output format: MOBI. Calibre will bundle its own KindleGen and write a real .mobi in 5–10 seconds. Alternatively, email the EPUB to your Kindle's personal address — Amazon converts it on their server.

Accepts: .PDF
Note: EPUB is generated from the extracted text layer only. Images, complex layouts, and tables are not transferred. For scanned PDFs, run OCR first.

About this PDF to MOBI

Convert your PDF to an EPUB e-book with our pdf to mobi tool. Selectable text from the PDF is packaged into a basic EPUB file for many e-reader apps such as Apple Books, Kobo apps, Calibre, and browser-based readers.

EPUB is a flowing-text format, so the result re-flows to fit the screen size of your reader — much more comfortable for long reading sessions than a fixed-layout PDF.

Your privacy is the default. Your selected files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our server; all processing happens client-side using PDF.js for text extraction and JSZip for EPUB packaging. Closing the tab clears the working session from this page; downloaded files remain on your device.

This tool is free to use with no signup required. Large files may be limited by your browser’s memory and device performance. Part of PDF Tools Base, a privacy-first collection of 161 PDF utilities. Bookmark the page for next time, and explore related tools in the footer below.

Frequently asked questions

Is PDF to MOBI / EPUB Converter safe to use?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser. Your selected files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to our server. Closing the tab clears the working session from this page; downloaded outputs remain on your device until you delete them.

Do I need to register or sign in?

No. No account, no email, no sign-up. Open the page and start using the tool immediately. Free to use, no signup needed.

Is there a watermark on the output?

No. PDF Tools Base never adds a watermark or branding to your output. Your final file is clean — just what you produced from the original.

Is there a file size limit?

There’s no fixed limit. Since processing uses your device’s memory, phones may struggle with files over 50–100MB; desktops may handle larger PDFs but can still fail on very large or complex files. Large PDFs may be slow or fail depending on browser memory, page count, output mode, and PDF complexity.

Does this work on mobile devices?

Yes. The tool works on all modern mobile browsers: Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS, Firefox, Edge, Brave. The drag-and-drop also accepts files from your phone’s file manager.

Why does my EPUB look basic after pdf to mobi?

EPUB uses flowing text by default. Images, multi-column layouts, and exact fonts are not transferred. The benefit is that the text reflows beautifully on small e-reader screens.
